Stitch Express now offers in-person payments as well as South Africa's first fully integrated Shopify POS solution, bringing card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Pay Later to the till.

Stitch is the first payments provider in South Africa to offer a fully integrated Shopify POS solution as part of our in-person offering, which allows Shopify merchants manage online and in-person payments in one place and sync in-store purchases directly with their online store.

Express POS is already live with merchants like Curve Gear, Sealand, Ciovita, Reef Surf Shop and more.

“What sets Stitch apart is their genuine commitment to listening. They take the time to understand the pain points we raise, then translate that feedback into practical solutions, like the Shopify POS integration, which we are currently testing and expect will make a real difference to how we operate. It's this responsiveness that keeps them well ahead of anyone else in the market.”

Standalone POS and Shopify POS through one platform

Express POS is available in three configurations, giving merchants the flexibility to choose the setup that fits how they operate. A standalone card terminal works independently of any POS system, suited to businesses that want a reliable payment device without the complexity of integration.

A Shopify POS integration connects the payment terminal directly to a merchant's Shopify store, so orders, payments and fulfilment flow through Shopify automatically. When a customer pays, their order is marked as paid instantly, removing the need for manual reconciliation between a separate payment device and an orders system.

For merchants running custom-built POS solutions, Stitch's API allows terminal sessions to be accessed directly.

All three options support card payments by tap, insert and swipe, alongside digital wallets including Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as Pay Later – available at checkout via QR code through an integrated solution that automatically links the item purchased at POS to a Pay Later plan. Every transaction, whether online or in person, is visible in a single Stitch Express dashboard.

Express In-person payments also supports automated refunds returned to the same method used for the original payment, including direct refunds from Shopify POS, cardless refunds and refunds to Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Enterprise-grade payments, built for businesses of any size

Express In-person payments runs on the same platform that processes omnichannel payments for some of South Africa's largest merchants, including Bash, Sani, SIXT, Babylonstoren and others. Retail businesses of any size now get access to that same reliability, uptime and infrastructure, without the complexity or pricing that usually comes with enterprise-grade systems.

Stitch certifies compatible devices and offers flexible acquisition options for select vetted terminals, including rent-to-own and outright purchase. Merchants can get set up quickly, with confidence that their terminal is fully supported.

Alternative payment methods at the counter

Beyond standard card acceptance, Express In-person payments gives customers more ways to pay in store. Shoppers can scan a QR code at checkout to pay using Apple Pay, Google Pay or Pay Later, which is linked directly to the item purchased at the till.

“Stitch Express was built to give every South African business access to the same quality payments infrastructure as the largest enterprise retailers, purpose-built for their needs,” Junaid Dadan, co-founder and president at Stitch, said.

“With Express In-person payments, we're extending that to point of sale. A merchant can now run their online and physical store through one platform, with the payment methods their customers want to use, including Pay Later and mobile wallets at the counter.”
